I'm not going to say much because I'm feeling a bit tired tonight, but I thought both plays were far better than Asylum, and The Dead Line made me choke up twice (which wasn't at all convenient because I was listening at work on my iPod). But seriously, Gareth gave a phenominal performance. Heartbreaking.

I remember when the only 'tie-ins' we had were the first three novels, and I was bitterly disappointed in, not only a great lack of pre-Janto flirting, but a huge lack of poor Ianto himself. But look at what we've got now! It almost feels like Torchwood was climbing into a cold swimming pool. First it dipped its toes, then it decided the water wasn't as cold as it thought so it dunked a leg in, then it decided the water wanted to be swum in and braced itself for a waist-height sink. Then, when a bunch of excitable people splashed in at the other side and waved it over, it smiled broadly and went for a big gay swim.

I love my Torchwood. Please don't let CoE be the end. It's time to sample the ocean.

I want to say lots of wonderful things about this radio play, but unfortunately I'm struggling to think of anything. You guys know how much I love my Torchwood, but I have to be honest. I thought it was boring, I thought it sounded unrehearsed and I thought it was a sad waste of forty-odd minutes that could have been used to hook some news fans. Don't get me wrong, there was potential there, but on the whole it fell flat.

The first problem was the lack of jeopardy. I, at no point, felt at all worried, about anyone, and when you consider I get palpitations at the mere thought of anything happening to my Ianto, that really is saying something.

Basically, it was a nice idea, but the writing let it down. Unrealised concept and dialogue that felt off. At times I wondered if Gareth and Eve felt the same way, because they did not sound like Gwen and Ianto. John was just John, bless him. He did his best with the little he had to work with.

The humour was all wrong. It wasn't Torchwood humour. There was a major opportunity for some classic comedy near the start in the SUV scene, and while I did find it amusing, it didn't make me laugh out loud. Again, the writing was off.

I'm going to make a bit of an unfair comparison now, but hopefully you'll get what I mean. Compare Asylum with the fantastic, recently released audio book Sin Eaters and what you see (hear?) is a half-arsed piece of fiction that would sell a maximum of ten copies on CD if it didn't star the Torchwood cast.

Asylum Verdict: I want to end on a positive note so I'll just advise you to rush out and buy Sin Eaters instead, a piece Torchwood kit every fan should own.

Yes, folks, it's picspam time again. Today we have the lovely Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds and the purpose of this picspam is to enlighten my flist to the woobie delights of this show and its star (IMO). Damage by xanthestories -- Gibbs/DiNzzo

When Gibbs investigates a minor robbery, he uncovers something much more sinister. The resulting investigation has unexpected and far-reaching consequences.

This is a long and plotty H/C fic. It's brilliantly written, in-character, realistic and the hurt and comfort aspects are perfectly balanced. You will need a strong stomach because the subject matter is serious stuff. Read the warnings inside the link and be aware that this isn't a fic that's going to gloss over the unpleasant bits. What it does do is present a heart-squashing story of an adult forced to finally face something that he's kept locked away in his head since he was a child. It's hard-going, but running along side the horror is a beautiful and realistic love story.

Fellow Spander fans, if you enjoyed Alexandria's Waiting Here, you'll love this. And be prepared to feel the need to rush off and hug something or someone on a regular basis, which reminds me, has anyone seen my dog? Large? Black and hairy? Last seen with an expression of 'Oh god, no, not again,' on his face?

My new computer arrived on Friday, which was way earlier than I expected. He's big, beautiful and orange and he weighs a fricking ton! But he lights up such a pretty blue and he looks fabulous next to my new Twenty-Two-Inch Tony ~happy sigh~

Actually, having a screen this big is very weird. I kind of don't know what to do with all the space. And reading fic is strange because a whole paragraph stretches over a single line. I look like I'm watching a game of tennis.

But the best thing? The Sims 3 runs like a dream.

In other news, I've just finished watching season 1 of Criminal Minds and I'm totally in love with Spencer Reid. Has anyone got any fic recs? I'm looking for Reid/Morgan and Reid/Hotch. Will also consider Reid/Gideon slash or gen. Any other CM fans on my flist??

I'm writing fic and I need to know the name of a contraption. It's a sticky-up thing that you pull sideways to set it off and then it wobbles side to side counting beats. I've seen it used in films when someone is playing an instrument or to hypnotize someone.

I just can't think what it's called and I can't think how to accurately Google it.

That's it for recs, and I would like to end this post on a slight change of subject. My post-NCIS telly-watching project is Criminal Minds. I am nine eps into season 1. OMG, REID!!! NEW WOOBIE!!!! ~huggles him~ I'm loving the father and son thing going on between him and Gideon. But who to slash him with ...? Wait, do I have to slash everyone? Yeah, pretty much.

Internet connection went down last night, just as I opened my LJ. FAIL!

Brand new hardcore motherfucker computer ordered and finance arranged. WINWINWINWINWINWINWINWINWIN!

Wow, soon, I might actually be able to use LJ for over an hour without the page freezing. I'll be able to use more than two applications at once! My monitor and dining room window need never feel threatened again. In fact, be gone to the side of the room lousy 15" screen, and helloooooo sexy 22" love god!

Firstly, James Marsters has been announced as a guest at The Hub 3, which is doubly exciting for kitty_poker1 and I because we're also seeing him at Hallowhedon the week after. You know what that means? Squishes two weeks in a row. James-huggles at least twice. And it also means that James and John Barrowman will be on the same stage at the same time. I'm beside myself. In fact, this isn't me speaking, it's the other me standing next to myself.

Secondly, and I'm sure most of you already know this but I'm always the last to know coz I'm a bit slow, there's issue of SFX Magazine out, a Vampires special. There are free Buffy coasters and a brand new James and Juliet interview.

Thirdly, I went to see the quack today and got myself put back on the happy pills. I don't think I'm coping as well as I'd like, at least that's what the Me standing next to myself is saying. I'm angry and I'm bitter and I'm frustrated and I'm depressed and I'm just about ready to pack my bags and get on the next flight out -- anywhere will do. So, positive steps. Taking control. It's a good thing.

Lastly, The Sims 3 works on my computer and I LOVE it. I'm just hoping I'm not pregnant. I didn't mean to try for a baby, but my male maid is such a manslut and in my enthusiasm I pressed the wrong button. It could happen to anyone!
